Engineering of Advanced Materials
Very few researchers have the honor of receiving such an award: EAM Member Peter Wasserscheid, Chair of Chemical Engineering I (Reaction Engineering), now is awarded the Advanced Investigator Grant of the European Research Council (ERC) for the second time. The subsidy amount of 2.5 million Euros will be used to further the research on a novel material concept for catalysis which is based on the powerful reaction acceleration of low melting metal drops.
For his groundbreaking research in this field, Peter Wasserscheid already was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz-Prize, the most renowned German award in research, back in 2006. Four years later, in 2010, he then was awarded the 2 million Euros worth Advanced Investigator Grant of the ERC. Now the European Research Council (ERC) has once again decided to award Peter Wasserscheid an Advanced Grant.
"The ERC assessors seem to share my passion for highly dynamic catalyst surfaces", says Peter Wasserscheid. "The unique research environment in Erlangen with leading researchers in the fields of spectroscopy, microscopy, particle technology, x-ray diffraction and theoretical chemistry were absolutely essential for the quality and persuasiveness of our preliminary works."
