Cluster of Excellence
Engineering of Advanced Materials
A delegation of scientists from the University of Minnesota (UMN) visited FAU from 5-7 June 2017. The researchers from the fields of materials science, particle technology and medicine met with colleagues in Erlangen to further intensify the cooperation between the two universities in their disciplines and establish new collaborations in the field of medical technology.
Last year FAU Vice President Prof. Günter Leugering and the President of UMN, Prof. Eric Kaler, signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Aim of the memorandum of 2016 was to intensify the cooperation between FAU and UMN, especially in the fields of materials science and particle technology, as in FAU’s major research area New Materials and Processes. Basis for this aim is the already existing fruitful cooperation between the researchers of the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials (EAM) of the FAU and their colleagues from Minnesota, which is shown in joint projects and publications.
Both universities now want to extend this successful collaboration as well as include other areas, for example, medical technology. This is why representatives of the medical technology department joined the delegation to discuss cooperation possibilities with the scientists at FAU.
Within the scope of the visit, a two-day workshop was held, attended by researchers from the USA and scientists from Erlangen who presented their projects to develop and progress joint ideas.
