Picture of the month: Two-line atomic fluorescence imaging for temperature measurements in an indium-based FSP process

Flame spray pyrolysis (FSP) is widely applied for the production of complex and functional nanoparticles. Since the temperature distribution during nanoparticle formation in a FSP flame is one of the most important parameters influencing particle size, morphology and crystallinity, detailed two-dimensional temperature information is of specific interest for this EAM project. The single-shot image shown here verifies that the signal levels in the flame are suitable for the evaluation of temperature and demonstrates the capability and potential of this technique directly during particle formation where no additional indium seeding is required.
